Can any type of artist enter the contest?
Yes! As long as they book a space on the Venuse platform, upload a 3-7 minute video of their work, and are eligible according to the Terms and Conditions. Musicians, Poets, Actors, Dancers, Comedians, Photographers, Magicians, and more are welcome and encouraged to enter.
I have to book a Venuse rehearsal space and upload a video to enter the contest. Do I have to record my video during my rehearsal hour?
No, we understand it can be hard to coordinate with whoever you have filming you. You can either pre-recorded content, or new content recorded outside of your rehearsal hour, as long as it is something that you’ve created yourself. There are definitely added brownie points for uploading something recorded during your rehearsal in a Venuse venue, but it’s not necessary.
I’m in a band/crew/troupe/group, can I enter more than once?
Yes! As long as you enter each submission with a new email address, and book a space for each video, you can enter as many times as you’d like. Are you a solo artist who wants to enter yourself, but also with a duet? Go for it! In an improv troupe and also want to submit a video of your stand up? We’d love to see everything you’ve got!
You said, “Promotion is half the battle—spread the word for a better chance to win!” What does that mean?
This contest was created to promote artist work. We will be promoting all contest entries through the contest site, and we will be promoting the contest via our networks and social media channels. We also want you to do the same. Don’t be afraid to share your art! Spread your work to the world! Our judges will be judging based on the skill in the video entries but will also be considering how widely you have spread your video.
That sounds awesome! …But I don’t have social media accounts?
There’s no better time than the present! Even if you don’t have a personal social media account, you should strongly consider creating one for your art. Social media is an invaluable tool for artists in 2018. You won’t be penalized for starting an account from scratch. In fact, the opposite: it can only help you in this contest!
The Grand Prize is “up to $1,000.” What does that mean?
The Grand Prize starts at $250. If Venuse receives 50 contest submissions, the prize will jump to $500. If there are 100 contest submissions, the prize will rise to $1,000. So spread the word! The more the merrier.
When does the contest end?
The submission period closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Friday, September 7th. All rehearsal bookings must be finished, and videos must be submitted via the form on this website before that time to be eligible for the contest.
